digitallearningday

Recently, the Ohio Board of Regents asked me to hold a webinar as part of Ohio’s celebration of Digital Learning Day. Today, I finalized the details of this event and I have shared them below. I’m looking forward to this webinar, as I have the opportunity to present with an outstanding second grade teacher from Green Local Schools, Ms. Kourtney Denning. Kourtney was part of my Digital Text Initiative back in the 2011-2012 school year and continues to be a leader in the classroom when it comes to digital pedagogies. Please join us for what promises to be an interesting and entertaining event!

Overview

  • There is an increasing amount of research on digital communication, “new” literacies and the use of digital technology as a teaching and learning tool in the classroom. When developing students’ skills with digital technologies for early literacy purposes, it is important to consider how technology has changed what is now regarded as literacy. Being transliterate, or the ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media is becoming an essential disposition in modern society. Join Jeremy Brueck, an educational researcher from The University of Akron, and Kourtney Denning, a second grade teacher from Green Local Schools, as they discuss digital pedagogies for the elementary classroom. Learn how you can begin to use ebooks, QR codes and other technologies to support literacy.
